What is a Fixed Deposit?
A fixed deposit (FD) locks your money with a bank for a set period (30 days to 1 year+) in exchange for a guaranteed interest rate.
Unlike savings accounts, the rate is fixed for the entire tenure — immune to Bank of Ghana rate changes during that period.
Early withdrawal typically incurs a penalty (loss of some or all interest earned).
GDPC Deposit Protection
All commercial banks in Ghana are members of the Ghana Deposit Protection Corporation (GDPC).
GDPC insures deposits up to GHS 50,000 per depositor per bank in the event of bank failure.
Amounts above GHS 50,000 are not covered by GDPC — consider spreading large deposits across multiple banks.
